Uganda, Kenya held to goalless draw
9 October 2010
Uganda continued their promising bid to reach the finals of the African Nations Cup for the first time since 1978 after holding neighbours Kenya to a goalless draw away in Nairobi on Saturday.
Uganda have now four points from their first two matches in Group J after also having beaten group favourites Angola 3-0 at home last month.
Kenya have but a single point and are expected to be bottom of the table by the end of the weekend after Angola host minnows Guinea Bissau in Luanda on Sunday.
Kenya’s Harambee Stars came within inches of securing a win at the Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday, however, as Jacob Mulee returned as coach and Italian-based MacDonald Mariga proved their most influential player.
He hit the post with a long-range thunderbolt and soon after had a chance which was saved by Uganda goalkeeper Denis Onyango.
Uganda might have opened the scoring just five minutes before half time when Ibrahim Sekaggya’s effort was saved by Kenya’s Wilson Oburu.
Mariga missed a gilt edge chance 10 minutes into the second half after Denis Oliech’s cross found him unmarked while, at the other end, Godfrey Massa squandered a similar chance for the visiting Carnes some 15 minutes from the end of the match.

kenya deserved to win because they dominated most of the game. Uganda packed their midfield making it difficult for mariga, osborne monday and Oliech to move. but Dennis Oliech needs a striking partner who is fast like him and thinks smart. this is because 3 defenders were on him and he still outclassed them. Angola should take harambee stars very seriously because the intelligence of the Kenyan players is vastly improving. For example in the second half, McDonald Mariga and Osborne Monday ended up playing with the psychology of the Ugandan players for 30 min therefore silencing the Ugandan crowd. and i have a feeling harambee stars shall defeat angola both home and away. this is because the quality of the Kenyan premier league is improving exponentially and by the time march arrives, harambee stars would have a polished squad :)
Both teams played nice football. However, Kenya did not deserve a goalless draw at home, given that thier lineup was the best they could imagine. More action is expected at Nambolee Fortress. We shall be there with our home made vuvuzelas known as Oporo.
gud game and i think it lived to the billing........nice game both teams won
