Hitzfeld Not Worried After Third Loss
Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld
“We shouldn't read too much into losing to Costa Rica. I am happy with the attitude of my players and the important thing is that we will be ready in South Africa,” commented the Switzerland coach Ottmar Hitzfeld after his side was beaten 1-0 by Costa Rica on Tuesday afternoon.
The coach highlights the fact that he is not worried over the loss, but maybe he should be seeing it was the Swiss’ third consecutive friendly loss in their build-up to the 2010 World Cup.
Nonetheless, Hitzfeld hardly seems perturbed by the situation and the string of poor results by his team; not to mention the fact that they are struggling to find the back of the net.
The Swiss have only managed to find the back of the net once in their last four outings and that goal came in a 3-1 defeat to Uruguay.
“I'm not really worried by our lack of goals in recent matches. The important thing is that we create plenty of chances,” confirmed the coach. However, with that said does Hitzfeld not understand that to win games you have to convert your chances and score goals?
On the match against Costa Rica the Switzerland coach said, “We made a good start to the match and had a good period towards the end of the match, too. I'm satisfied with those periods.”
The nonchalant attitude of the Swiss gaffer could be the countries down fall in the end. If they want to qualify for the second round thy certainly have a lot of work ahead of them, especially in front of goal.
Switzerland’s next match sees them take on Italy in a friendly on the 5th of June in Geneva.
