CotonSport stunned by newcomers
29 November 2010
Defending champions CotonSport suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of newly-promoted MTN Elite 1 side Caiman Club Douala on Sunday.
It was certainly the biggest surprise of the season so far, and one of the biggest of recent years, but what will be frustrating for the title contenders this season is that no-one was able to significantly capitalise.
Current leaders Union Douala were held to a 0-0 draw by another newly-promoted team, Scorpion, while second-placed Université drew 2-2 at last year's runners-up Astres.
It means that Union, Université and Scorpion are the only unbeaten sides after three rounds of the MTN Elite 1 season.
Tiko United claimed their first win of the season as they edged Panthère 3-2 in a five-goal thriller, while Renaissance claimed their first success of the season as they defeated newly-promoted Lausanne 1-0.
Finally, Unisport Bafang claimed their second successive win with a 1-0 victory over Canon to move within a point of the leaders.
There had already been one game played this round before the weekend, on Wednesday, when Yong Sport Academy and Sable ended their match 0-0.
The next round of fixtures will be played this coming Sunday.
