Emmanuel Adebayor
The Togo international just can’t stop scoring for his new club Manchester City and they all seem to be winners, making his goals doubly important. This time he netted with a header in the 1-0 win over English Premiership strugglers Portsmouth, rising highest in the air to beat South African captain Aaron Mokoena from a corner. Mohamed Zidan
Zidane has faced a difficult few weeks after being suspended from the Egyptian national team for not showing up for the friendly international against Guinea on August 12, but he put all that behind him to score for German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund in their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. It was a typical poacher’s goal as he capitalised on a stray pass from Frankfurt’s Ioannis Amanatidis to run through the home defence and provide a clinical finish. Mamadou Samassa
The Malian netted an 87th minute winner for his French Ligue 1 side Valenciennes, who recorded their first away win in the top flight in two years as they defeated Toulouse 1-0. Capatilising on a poor clearance, Samassa lashed the ball home to send the disbelieving visiting fans wild.

Thulasizwe Mbuyane
The Orlando Pirates striker netted a hat-trick as his side thumped old foes Jomo Cosmos 3-0 in their South African Premier League match. The Bafana Bafana international scored one with his head and two with his feet, but all were clinical finishes. Hat-tricks are a fairly rare event in South African top flight football and Mbuyane has the first of the 2009/10 season.

Asamoah Gyan
The Ghanaian international striker left it late but his 90th minute equaliser earned a valuable away point for French Ligue 1 side Rennes against Lens. Gyan had an outstanding game all round, but he capped the Man of the Match performance with a goal as he steered home Sylvain Marveaux’s corner in injury time.
