Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari is shocked that his loyalty to the Black Stars has been questioned and insists his allegiance to his country remains resolute.

The Inter Milan enforcer got a hiding from the local media for absenting himself for this month’s World Cup qualifiers against Mali and Sudan.

The media’s anger over his absence was exacerbated by his mum’s claims that the Black Stars would not progress without her son.

Criticism of the player went an octave higher after the away wins over Mali and Sudan but Muntari says his loyalty must not be questioned.

“There were a lot of rumours that was unfair but I got my breakthrough in my football career because of playing for Ghana and I am not about to turn my back on it all of a sudden,” Muntari said.

“If I am called up I will definitely come to play.”

The Inter Milan player opted out of the qualifiers against Sudan and Mali claiming he had long postponed surgery on a nagging injury.

Even though a section of the media questioned the veracity of the injury he says he had the surgery and is now on the mend.

“I played for about two months of the season with an injury and sometimes I will train once a week and play on the weekend or not train at all,” Muntari said.

“When the season ended I did a test and was told to rest. I could not have decided all of a sudden not to play for the country again.”
