| Born in Kinshasa but brought up in England where he was first spotted at Colchester United in the lower leagues before a high profile move to Newcastle United and now at Portsmouth in the Premier League. Has had a chequered career in African football; he was twice suspended by CAF for his behaviour on the pitch, including a long ban after a red card at the 2004 MTN Africa Cup of Nations finals in Tunisia, where he was team captain. Made his debut for the Congolese at the 2002 finals in Mali. Injury in 2005 curtailed his appearances in the 2006 World Cup qualifiers, where he did not manage a single goal. Did find the net, however, in the DRC’s opener (a 2-0 win against Togo) at the 2006 MTN Africa Cup of Nations, where he played every minute and was cautioned twice. |
