Scored on his debut for an under-strength Super Eagles' side against South Africa in a friendly in Johannesburg in 2004. Has earned plaudits for his work rate and unselfish approach and in the 2005 off-season was the subject of much transfer speculation in Italy with Inter Milan seeking his services but beaten by a better offer from Sicilian club Palermo.
