Naybet Back For Morocco
Casablanca - 5 January 2006

Morocco’s veteran captain Nouredine Naybet has been handed a recall to the national team, called up in a preliminary squad of 28 named for the African Nations Cup finals later this month.

New coach Mohamed Fakhir, who replaced Philippe Troussier at the weekend, has recalled the 35-year-old defender after Naybet had been dropped from the team during the closing stages of last year’s World Cup qualifiers after a row with previous Morocco coach Badou Ezaki.

Morocco’s football federation announced plans to stage a hastily arranged friendly against fellow Nations Cup finalists the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rabat on Monday, January 9.

It will be Fakhir’s first game in charge since taking over from Troussier, controversially dismissed on New Year’s Eve after just over a month in charge of the Morocco side.
