Real Madrid thrash Lyon
Real Madrid maintained their winning streak in the UEFA Champions League with a 4-0 demolition of Olympique Lyonnais at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.
Karim Benzema scored the opening goal against his former club and set up the second for Sami khedira before an own goal by Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and another goal from Sergio Ramos sealed the match for the home side.
Real Madrid were in control from start to finish as Lyon offered nothing on attack, leaving striker Bafetimbi Gomis isolated upfront.
The first goal came in the 19th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo rose in the near post to flick a Mesut Ozil corner; two Madrid players were left unmarked in the far post but it was Benzema who got the vital touch to nudge the ball in.
The second goal, which came two minutes after the break, was a bit unfortunate for the visitors as defender Bakary Kone slipped which allowed Benzema enough space to play an accurate cross for Sami Khedira who finished calmly to score his first goal in Real Madrid colours.
Jose Mourinho’s side continued to launch attack after attack and they were rewarded again in the 55th minute when a cross from Ozil was deflected into the back of the net by Lloris.
The final goal was a result of poor defending as Sergio Ramos was allowed to connect with a corner from Kaka in-between two defenders, the ball fell kindly for the defender who obliged by volleying it home.
Real Madrid remain on top of Group D following their third win in as many matches.
