PSG a point away from round of 16

PSG only need one point to qualify for the round of sixteen of the Champions League during week 5 on Wednesday evening in the Ukraine.

The team are lying second in their Pool A behind FC Porto with nine points and a five-point lead on their opponents of the day, Dynamo Kiev, and will ensure their qualification if they do not lose against the Ukrainians.

But the latter have not had their last say in this competition, despite the fact that only a victory at home in their Olimpiysky National Sports Complex would maintain their chances of reaching the next round.

Alexei Mikhailitchenko’s men will also be set on taking revenge on the Parisians, who subjected them to a 4-1 drubbing at the Parc des Princes during the first week of this group phase.

Paris Saint-Germain, who have been having a hard time in the Ligue 1 where they have just been subjected to two defeats and a draw, will do their utmost to secure their qualification on the European scene before they host FC Porto in the final week.

And despite the fact that Carlo Ancelotti’s men have just lost their position of leader in the championship to Lyon, they are still remaining upbeat.

“We have the cards in our hands to do really well in the championship, like in the European Cup this season. We have to always do better, that’s why we work every day at training. To win the Champions League, you also need a bit of luck. So why not, starting from this season,” pondered PSG’s Brazilian defender, Alex.

Missing from the Italian technician’s team are Jérémy Ménez, Christophe Jallet, Kévin Gameiro and Mathieu Bodmer, all injured, but he does finally recuperate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been sorely missed in the Ligue 1 of late.

The other Group A clash sees the group leader FC Porto measure strength with Dinamo Zagreb, who are already eliminated.
