Stern Juve defence to face relentless Bayern attack
Bayern reached their fourth UEFA Champions League quarterfinal in five seasons with an away goals win against Arsenal FC in the round of 16. After a 3-1 win in London they went down 2-0 at home. Juventus eliminated Scottish side Celtic 5-0 on aggregate in the last 16 to book their place in the last eight.
Bayern's quest for a second successive Champions League semifinal place – and third in four years – is threatened by a Juventus side who have won all five European quarterfinals against German opponents and are unbeaten in 18 games in UEFA club competition, qualifying included.
All the previous six contests between the European heavyweights have come in the Champions League group stage. Juventus have recorded three victories to Bayern's two.
Both sides are enjoying a healthy lead in their domestic campaigns. Bayern are on the verge of a 23rd Bundesliga title, they routed Hamburg 9-2 this past Saturday to take their goals tally to 78 with just 13 conceded in the Bundesliga, while finding the net 18 times in the Champions League.
Juventus, enjoying a nine-point lead in Serie A, have conceded only 19 goals in 30 league games this season and just four in the Champions League. Juventus could face the Bavarian giants without striker Sebastian Giovinco, who suffered an ankle knock at the end of this past Saturday's 2-1 win at Inter Milan.
