Ezequiel Lavezzi confessed that he was expecting his team to be triumphant over Chelsea but has warned that it is still not yet over for the Blues.

The Argentine netted a brace in last night’s match to help secure a 3-1 win at the San Paolo stadium, with his equalizing goal marking a fight back from the Juan Mata opener.

“I expected a victory tonight and was confident,” revealed Lavezzi. “I think Chelsea are a strong side and it is not over yet.

“We have a good advantage, but we need to go and take the initiative and score at least a goal in London to secure qualification to the next round.

“The Coach told us to help out the team with our defensive movement. We all gave a hand at the back, because that’s what we needed to have a great game. I’d say we achieved it.”

After going into the half time 2-1 up, Lavezzi was decisive once more in scoring the third goal for the Versuviani.

“Chelsea scored a bit of a lucky goal after we had been in charge up to that point. Fortunately we equalised pretty quickly and avoided getting too anxious, then reacted the way we did.

“We played a great game and forced Chelsea’s defenders into many mistakes that we took advantage of.”
