Andrea Barzagli believes Juventus’ 3-2 victory over Milan on Sunday ‘was an important test and we came through it well’.

The Scudetto contenders took to the field on Sunday evening for the traditional Serie A opener of the Trofeo Berlusconi at the San Siro, with the Bianconeri lifting the trophy at the end of the 90 minutes.

“We're working really hard, the new lads have settled in well and the results are there for all to see,” he told the club’s official site.

“This was an important test and we came through it well. We showed people what we're made of tonight. We weren't on top of our game in the Super Cup but we played well today, even though we were missing a couple of key men."

Andrea Pirlo, Stephan Lichsteiner and Gianluigi Buffon were all absent for the game and having pulled off a victory without their key men, Barzagli believes greater things are in line for Juve.

"We weren't favourites when we set out last year but we believed in ourselves and we ran out as winners. We just need to make sure we keep going out there with the same hunger and determination, otherwise you stop going forward. We did that today."
