Milan announce Villareal capture
Italian Serie A
Milan has officially announced the surprising arrival of former Udinese defender Christian Zapata from Villareal.
Following the departure of Thiago Silva, the Rossoneri were in a constant search to find a suitable central defender and were linked with various names; such as Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and M’Baye Niang.
But with not one news report linking Zapata and Milan together, the club caught the media and fans by surprise by announcing his arrival.
“AC Milan communicate they have temporarily loaned Christian Zapata from Villareal FC, with a right of option to buy,” read a statement on acmilan.com.
The 25-year-old Columbian spent six-years at Serie A club Udinese, before making the move to La Liga in June 2011, where he couldn’t help prevent his club suffering relegation.
