Ten-man Lecce stunned the league front runner Juventus by coming back from one goal down to draw level through Andrea Bertolacci and a Gianluigi Buffon error.

Tension was high for both teams as both sides needed maximum points to help secure their season, for Juventus the a potential title decider and for Lecce a result which could see them closer to relegation if they failed to win.

The Bianconeri were handed an instant blow as Paolo De Ceglie had to be taken off in the fifth minute for a hamstring pull. He was replaced by Martin Caceres.

That didn’t seem to faze the hosts as they broke the deadlock through Claudio Marchisio as he headed in an Andrea Pirlo cross four minutes later.

On the 19 Juan Cuadrado was booked for a challenge on Arturo Vidal, before Giorgio Chiellini failed to trouble the Lecce backline as his attempt went high over goal in the 23rd minute.

Just before the half hour mark the hosts went close against as Vidal lay a pass to Vidal, who controlled, turned and shot but it went wide by inches.

Two minutes from the Stephan Lichsteiner failed to convert the long cross towards his, while Moris Carrozzieri was booked for a foul on Fabio Quagliarella.

Christian Obodo was booked for a foul on Quagliarella in the 50th minute, which promoted a substitution for the Salentini as Luis Muriel replaced Haris Seferovic.

Cuadrado was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence for a foul on Caceres in the 54th minute while Vidal missed the opportunity to extend the lead two minutes later, due to poor control.

Following Leandro Bonucci’s booking in the 63rd minute Davide Brivio stepped up to take a set-piece but it was a shocking one, as it went high and far wide of Gianluigi Buffon’s goal.

Muriel caught Buffon nearly napping on his end of the goal in the 73rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to save his blushes before Alessandro Matri’s shot was spilled but cleared just before the line a minute later.

Things turned sour for Juventus as Buffon made an uncharacteristic mistake, as he Andrea Bertolacci rounded Buffon and slotted the ball into an empty net to bring the scores equal with five minutes to be played.

It was that goal that would end things even keeping the Salentini’s hopes of survival alive.
