Juventus claimed a vital three points as they held on to beat Chievo Verona
Juventus dished out a commanding first half performance as they beat Chievo Verona 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in a Serie A match at the Stadio Marc'Antonio Bentegodi.

An early goal from Alessandro Matri and a late first half strike by Stephan Lichtsteiner gave the champions a two goal lead before Cyril Thereau’s second half goal gave Juventus a nervy finish.

The first ten minutes of the match was just the start the Old Lady needed. Arturo Vidal spotted the run of Alessandro Matri, who had peeled off his marker, and the 28-year-old striker showed wonderful technique to volley the ball with his left foot across Chievo keeper Christian Puggioni and into the far corner

In the 21st minute after a good build-up play from the Bianconeri, it was so close to 2-0. Sebastian Giovinco played a splendid one-two with Alessandro Matri but his low placed shot trickled just past the post.

Three minutes before the half time whistle sounded, Juventus made it 2-0 when Sebastian Giovinco and Alessandro Matri combined excellently once again, with Giovinco back heeling the ball into the path of Stephan Lichtsteiner who fired across goal with his left foot past the helpless Puggioni.

Two minutes later, Lichtsteiner looked to add to his tally when he collected Giovinco's pass and cut in from the right flank but his left-footed shot flashed wide of Puggioni's goal.

Seven minutes into the second half Chievo made their constant pressure count.  Perparim Hetemaj's long ball forward was chested down by Alberto Paloschi into the path of his strike partner Cyril Thereau, who rifled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner. It was great response from the home side.

Chievo rallied for an equaliser but Juventus hung on to claim a vital away victory.
