Inter bounce back with win at Sampdoria
Internazionale bounced back from their defeat to Juventus at the weekend with a 2-0 victory away to Sampdoria at the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris on Wednesday evening.
Andrea Stramaccioni’s team came into the match having been beaten in their last two successive Serie A matches, the most recent of which was a 2-1 reverse at home to league leaders Juve on Saturday.
Their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League look remote – they are seven points adrift of city rivals AC Milan, who occupy third spot – but they are now at least in a three-way battle with Fiorentina and Lazio for two spots in the UEFA Europa League.
After a slow start to the match, Inter broke the deadlock in the 43rdminute through striker Rodrigo Palacio, who was teed-up by Alvaro Pereira.
The visitors were able to resist whatever Samp could throw at them in the second half and extended their advantage in injury time at the end of the game when Palacio netted his second.
Inter claimed the three points on offer to move level with Lazio on 50 points. Sampdoria remain in 12th on 36 points.
