Rolfes banned for red card after 75 seconds
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Simon Rolfes was given the statutory one-match ban by the German Football Federation (DFB) on Monday having been sent off after only 75 seconds on the pitch.
The ex-Germany star came off the bench in Leverkusen's 3-2 Bundesliga win over Fortuna Duesseldorf on Sunday after 63 minutes, but was sent off just seconds later for a foul on Fortuna's Adam Bodzek.
It was the second fastest dismissal in Bundesliga history.
The 30-year-old accepted the decision, but Leverkusen's director of sport Rudi Voeller was far from impressed and had appealed to the DFB to have Rolfes let off.
"We are German, we are German and bureaucratic, therefore he will be banned," Voeller had fumed after Sunday's game.
Rolfes fouled Bodzek right in front of referee Dr. Felix Brych, who made no hesitation in reaching for his red card.
Leverkusen are fourth in the Bundesliga and are at VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday in their next league game.
