Everton cruised into the third round of the English League Cup with a 5-0 win over third-tier Leyton Orient at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

Kevin Mirallas marked his first start for the Merseysiders by scoring two goals and setting up two others as the Premier League club raced into a 4-0 half-time lead in front of their own fans.

The Belgian striker, signed from Greek club Olympiakos earlier this month, was on target in the 16th minute, set up Leon Osman in the 22nd minute, scored again two minutes later, and then centred for Victor Anichebe to put Everton 4-0 in front 10 minutes before the break.

League One Orient, who beat Championship side Charlton Athletic on penalties in the first round but had lost their subsequent opening two league fixtures, conceded another goal when Magaye Gueye volleyed home Everton's fifth in the 67th minute.
