England and Ukraine goalless at half-time
England were goalless with co-hosts Ukraine at half-time on Tuesday in their final Euro 2012 Group C match as Roy Hodgson's side sought the point they required to reach the quarter-finals.
Hodgson restored Wayne Rooney to his starting line-up as the Manchester United man returned from a two-match suspension in place of Andy Carroll, but the striker and his colleagues were finding it hard to break down a resolute Ukraine side shorn of the injured Andrei Shevchenko.
On the one occasion he did find some space Rooney missed the target from an Ashley Young cross.
Andrei Yarmolenko had a chance for the Ukrainians as he fired in a low shot which Joe Hart in the England goal was equal to.
Ukraine, earlier beaten by France but winners over eliminated Sweden, had to win to advance to the last eight.
