Jamiu Alimi in winning start in Ukraine
The promising defender, who joined from Belgian club Westerlo, was a late substitute as Tavriya defeated Wolyn Luzk 1-0 courtesy of a late winner.
Last season, big central defender Alimi made a handful of first-team appearances for Westerlo before he switched to Ukraine recently.
He missed the final cut for the 2011 FIFA U20 World Cup in Colombia no thanks to injury.
Tavriya, who paraded Nigeria International midfielder Sani Kaita for the whole duration, have now climbed to seventh place on the table with 24 points after 17 matches.
Kaita will return to return to former club Metalist in midweek for a cup game.
In the meantime, compatriot Lucky Idahor has left Kaita’s club after failing to get more playing time.
The vastly experienced striker was Tavriya’s top scorer last season but he has fallen out of favour with the coach.
He will be a free agent in December, when his contract runs out.
