Nigeria goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama has insisted he will not be intimidated by rival fans after he joined Maccabi Tel-Aviv on loan.

Last year, Enyeama joined Lille, but this summer Maccabi Tel Aviv reached an agreement with the French outfit for a season-long loan deal for him on the back of limited playing time last season.

Enyeama admitted it was a tough decision to return to join the city rivals of his previous club Hapoel Tel-Aviv, but he is a professional who will face his latest task as such.

"Honestly, it hasn't been easy to take the decision to play against Hapoel Tel Aviv, but I'm a professional, I'm a foreign player, and I've taken the decision. Today I want to only play for Maccabi and this is why I'm here," he told the Maccabi Tel Aviv website.

"I've missed Israel, not only the football but everything."

Enyeama said he now expects the Maccabi Tel-Aviv fans to give him a warm welcome.

"Maccabi's fans have always been very fanatical towards their team, now I play for them so I hope they will move their support on to me, and let me enjoy their passion. Let's see what they will sing for me this time".

He said he is looking forward to a fruitful season with Maccabi.

“Thank God I have two weeks to train before the season start. I will take it gradually. I will do my best to give the fans what they want, the season is a long one and I am optimistic of a good season, I believe we will achieve something at the end of it,” he said.

Enyeama first moved to the Israeli league when he was 24, after signing a contract with Bnei Yehuda.

After two years with Bnei Yehuda, he teamed up with Hapoel Tel-Aviv and became one of the best goalkeepers in Israel.

Enyeama played for four years for Hapoel, winning the 2009/10 double, the Israeli Cup for 2010/11 and even qualified for the UEFA Champions League group stage.
