Sensational start for Aurélien Chedjou
Lille’s Cameroonian international defender, Aurélien Chedjou
In their away game at Geoffroy Guichard on Saturday in the opening week of the Ligue 1, the Dogues opened the score just before the hour mark with a header by the Indomitable Lion, on a free kick by Dimitri Payet.
Les Verts managed to equalise fifteen minutes later through their latest recruit, Romain Hamouma, but it would be the Lillois who would have the last word in the dying moments of the clash thanks to Benoît Pedretti, who had only come on a few minutes before.
Chedjou’s departure was announced this summer, but the Cameroonian has had to remain at the club from the northern reaches of France for at least another year, despite interest paid by certain clubs like Reading, Fenerbahçe, Lyon and even Marseille.
“The directors gave me a proposal, this is true. Things should work out. To leave just for the sake of leaving, that’s not worth it,” admitted the Cameroonian international to French publication, l’Equipe.
Lille coach, Rudi Garcia, will certainly not be complaining…
