Montpellier striker Olivier Giroud challenges Parisian Siaka Tiéné
Carlo Ancelotti’s Parisian team might not yet
have lost a match in an official competition, but their recent performances
have not really measured up to his ambitions, nor those of his team.
The last two outings of the club that hails
from the capital ended in a very average draw against Nice in the Ligue 1, followed
by a narrow win in Dijon in their last sixteen encounter in the France Cup.
And this weekend’s visitor, the one team
currently keeping up the pace with Paris, has garnered seven consecutive
victories over all competitions.
Lying just a tiny point behind the leader, Montpellier
would take the lead in the championship should they be victorious on Sunday at
the Parc des Princes.
But the president of the Hérault club is not
getting too excited.
“One must be reasonable and keep one’s feet
firmly on the ground.
“There are still 45 points to be won and we
have a lead of ten. Things can change
very quickly,” commented Louis Nicollin.
Nonetheless, it can’t be denied that
Montpellier currently have the best attack in the Ligue 1, as well as the best
striker in the form of Olivier Giroud, who has already netted 16 goals this
season.
René Girard will be without the services of Geoffrey
Dernis, who was injured against Brest last weekend.
