Lyon and Bordeaux meet again
Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette tries to escape Bordeaux’s Benoît Trémoulinas
After a good patch of five consecutive victories at the end of last year,
the Lyonnais have blown hot and cold with a recent defeat at home against Caen in
the championship, followed by a very narrow victory, still on home soil,
against modest Cypriot outfit APOEL FC in the Champions League.
Lyon, current finalists in the League Cup, remain in the running in
the France Cup and the Champions league and are more hopeful of a European
position than the Ligue 1 title.
At ten places from the leading duo, Rémi Garde’s men no longer really
seem capable of bagging the crown that has escaped them for the past four years.
The Girondins of Bordeaux have been undefeated in the championship since
Day 19 and have only been defeated once at home this season, on Day 1 against Saint-Etienne.
Francis Gillot and his protégés have just enjoyed an impressive win 5-4 on
Lille soil, thanks notably to a huge match by Ludovic Obraniak, freshly
recruited by the team from the current champion’s ranks.
Olympique Lyon’s task therefore appears very complicated for a team who
cannot afford another slip-up in the race for the title.
