Lyon under extreme pressure

After being outdistanced at the top of the Ligue 1 by PSG, Lyon must imperatively ensure a win on Sunday in Bordeaux during week 25 (kick-off at 15h00 CAT).

For the first time this season, OL have suffered two consecutive defeats in the championship, conceding no less than six goals in the process.

Before their perilous trip to the Gironde region, Rémi Garde’s men were not able to win back their confidence on the European stage.  They were defeated by Tottenham on Thursday evening at White Hart Lane in the Europa League, following a killer free-kick by Gareth Bale in the dying moments of the clash.

Now lying six points short of Paris Saint-Germain - who will definitely not be making life easy for Sochaux on Sunday evening - and with only a two-point lead on Olympique Marseille despite les Phocéens’ recent poor form, les Gones will have to put on their best against Bordeaux to avoid serious doubt starting to creep in.

But President Aulas’ men refuse to sink into defeatism during this complicated period for the club.

“We shouldn’t start to question everything now.  We don’t have the results that we hoped for, but this doesn’t mean that nothing is going well.

“Paris Saint-Germain?  They have a good lead, but it’s not over yet.  We have to push until the end,” assured Lyon striker, Alexandre Lacazette.

After a fine series of three consecutive wins, Bordeaux were outclassed away against Ajaccio last weekend.

They have however just secured a valuable draw from their away game in Kiev 1-1 against Dynamo, during the first leg of the round of 32 of the Europa League.

Francis Gillot’s team also have their excellent home form to draw comfort from, where they have only been defeated once this season - against Paris Saint-Germain.
