Maduro: "We have to improve"
Hedwiges Maduro
Atletico opened the scoring through a penalty kick which was converted by Radamel Falcao, while Sevilla were left with ten men as defender Federico Fazio was shown a straight red card for committing the foul.
The Rojiblancos were than able to dominate the match and added three more goals while Sevilla were unable to respond.
"We started well, it was an even match, but from the penalty onwards, which I don't believe it should have been, everything was for them," said Maduro.
"We have to improve because sometimes we have to play harder and to be more alert.
"I believe that until the penalty, they hadn't had one shot but in the end they scored four goals and we have to be stronger in defence".
Michel Gonzalez' men will now shift their focus to the second leg of their Copa del Rey clash against Espanyol on Wednesday night, before resuming their league campaign against Real Valladolid on Monday.
"We have to be positive because on Wednesday we have a match that we have to play well in," added Maduro. "Then Valladolid will come to us and at home we are strong as a group.
"We are the same team, but the Liga is a process and we have to be consistent."
