Jordi Alba says he is happy with his return to Barcelona after the club agreed on his transfer fee with Valencia on Thursday.

The 23-year-old spent seven years of his youth career with the Catalans before moving to join Cornella and then Valencia.

He is currently in Ukraine where he is set to represent Spain in the final of the European Championship, but he says he was pleased when he found out that the two clubs had reached an agreement.

"I heard upon arrival to training [of the transfer]. I'm very happy to be going back home," he told Marca.

Joan Capdevilla occupied the left-back position when Spain won the 2008 European Championship and the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but coach Vicente del Bosque believes Alba has managed to fill the veteran’s shoes.

"We never realised the importance of Joan Capdevilla. But we are delighted with Alba,” Del Bosque told reporters.

“We have found an extremely good replacement and it is not always easy to find one.

"He (Alba) is going to have an extraordinary future ahead."

Alba made 108 appearances for Valencia in all competitions and will join Barcelona on a five-year deal.
