Sevilla to host Kanoute tribute

Sevilla will host a charity match on September 25 in honour of former striker Frederic Kanoute of Mali.

‘Champions for Africa’ is an annual charity match which is promoted by the Kanoute Foundation in association with UNICEF.

The inaugural event took place at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in 2008 and since then it has been held at various stadia including Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu and Valencia’s Mestalla.

Sevilla will now host the match for the second time to pay tribute to the Malian striker who recently left the club after seven years of service.

The match will be held on September 25 and will feature a team made up of current and former Sevilla players who will take on an Invitational XI.

Kanoute will feature for both sides on the day and all funds raised will contribute towards the construction of a health facility for children in Bamako.
