Winger Jose Antonio Reyes believes spending pre-season with his teammates will help him perform better next season.

The 28-year-old rejoined Sevilla midway through last season from Atletico Madrid and has often been criticized for not leading by example as one of the more experienced players in the side.

However, the former Arsenal player says he has discussed his role with coach Michel Gonzalez and looking forward to helping the club achieve their objectives in the new season.

“I’ve spoken quite a lot with the gaffer (Michel) and told him what I want and he told me what he wants from me, which is for me to be an important player,” Reyes told reporters.

“I’ve promised him I’ll be at 100% and give my all for the team.”

Reyes is part of the large squad of players that is currently going through their paces at the pre-season camp in Costa Ballena, and he says the whole team is looking forward to turning things around in the new campaign.

"We’re doing a lot of fitness work, which is important, because everything we do now will pay off later,” said Reyes. “Being with your club for pre-season is vital.

“Right now you can ask anyone, I’m in perfect condition, I feel great. Spending pre-season with your team makes a difference over the course of the year.”
