Fernando Gago’s agent, Marcelo Lombilla, has criticized Real Madrid for the way they treated his client during his stay with the club.

The Argentinean played alongside the likes of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero at youth level and was regarded as a great prospect for the future when he joined the Whites from Boca Juniors in 2007.

However, after an unsuccessful four-and-a-half year spell with the club he was loaned out to Italian club Roma with the aim of completing a permanent move to the Serie A side.

However, the Giallorossi have turned down the option to purchase Gago for seven million Euros, despite the player having made 31 appearances for them last season.

However, Lombilla says his client is not interested in fighting for his place in Jose Mourinho’s squad for next season and considering other options instead.

"He does not want to convince Mourinho, we know that he does not count on him, the worst thing that can happen in your life is going to a place where you are not wanted," Lombilla told Deportes Cope.

"In his last season at Madrid, it looked like he had scabies, and he had a hard time there."

Nevertheless, Lombilla says his client is still keen on playing in one of the top leagues in Europe and will choose his next destination carefully.

“He does not want to go to Russia or Turkey, he is not going to play at just 'some' place," said Lombilla.

"There was no agreement with Roma, and we are now listening to other clubs, but we do not have any concrete offer yet."
