Real Madrid’s Marcelo will represent Brazil at the 2012 Olympic Games while Barcelona’s Dani Alves didn’t make the cut.

Coach Mano Manezes confirmed that the three players over the age of 23 would be Marcelo, Milan’s Thiago Silva and Hulk of FC Porto.

Alves recently recovered from a collarbone injury and was keen on

representing his country but will now concentrate on rejoining the Catalans for the pre-season program.

He responded to the news via his official Twitter account saying: “Thanks for your support. Life goes on and good luck to that group of fine players. They'll make sure we're well represented.”

Brazil have put together a strong squad including the likes of Neymar, Alexandre Pato, and Lucas Moura as they go in search of their first Olympic gold medal.
