Lopez positive about Sevilla move
Diego Lopez, Villarreal goalkeeper
The 30-year-old did well for the Yellow Submarine between the sticks but it was not enough to save them from relegation to the Segunda Division.
"I spent five years at Villarreal and I’m very sad about happened to the club but I had to go follow my own path and now I’m with Sevilla,” Lopez told AS.
“I think it’s going to be a fantastic season and I’m confident that we’ll start the season with great strength and self-esteem.”
With Javi Varas set to leave the club, Lopez will have to compete with veteran goalkeeper Andres Palop and he says he’s looking forward to the challenge.
"I will fight and continue to improve myself but the most important thing is to help the team to fight for important objectives.
“It was something I would not have dreamt of a few years ago but I’ve progressed and now I’m part of a big club like Sevilla.
“Now that I'm here, I want to enjoy and live life. I have signed for five years and I want to make the best of my stay here.”
Before joining Villarreal in 2007, Lopez spent two seasons with Real Madrid’s first team as back-up for Iker Casillas, and managed just two league appearances.
