Real Madrid midfielder Mesut Ozil says playing under coach Jose Mourinho has made him a better player.

The German midfielder has been key to Madrid’s success this season and is currently one of the leading assist providers in La Liga and he says a lot of it has to do with the Portuguese coach.

"Mourinho builds my confidence and I've become a more intelligent player on the pitch thanks to him." Ozil told Kicker magazine.

"I'm very grateful to him for helping me recover my potential. He speaks to me often and supports me. He shows me I'm an important player for him on this team."

The 24-year-old says although he still has a long future ahead of him, he would like to remain in the Spanish capital until he retires.

"I'd like to end my career at Real Madrid. I know it will be difficult because I have many more years ahead of me and many younger and good players will also be out there, but I want to be part of that future," he said.

"I know what I'm capable of and I'm convinced I'll stay at Real Madrid many years."

Regarding their seven-point lead over Barcelona, Ozil feels that although it’s a good advantage, they still have to work hard to protect it.

"A seven-point lead may seem large, but it could disappear with only two mishaps. We must concentrate on playing well. Barcelona won't catch up with us if we keep up the good work," he concluded.

Real Madrid will be looking to maintain their advantage when they visit Getafe on Saturday night.
