Sevilla defender Juan Cala says he is hoping to be in the starting lineup when they face Real Valladolid on Monday night.

The 23-year-old has made just two appearances in La Liga this season but with both Federico Fazio and Emir Spahic ruled out by suspension, he is likely to get a rare start.

"There are three of us competing for the two central positions,” Cala told SFC TV.

“Nobody has told me if I’m going to start and it would be disrespectful to assume because there are two other colleagues who are capable of playing there.

“I’ll wait for the coach to announce his team but if I'm in the starting lineup, I will try to do my best to impress the coach so I can more opportunities in future.

Although he is not a regular starter, Cala says he is not discouraged and looking forward to fighting for his place in the squad.

“I have just turned 23 years and I'm playing for Sevilla FC,” he said. “I am not always in the team but I'm part of the squad.

“I’m hoping to get more game time and I have to keep on fighting.”

Cala is a product of the Sevilla youth development setup and he made his La Liga debut during the 2009/10 season.
