Sevilla sporting director Monchi says they were forced by circumstances to release striker Luis Alberto to Barcelona.

The 19-year-old recently joined Barca’s B-team on a season long loan deal with an option to purchase.

"Four or five months ago, Luis’ agent informed us that Barcelona were interested in signing the player for their B team,” Monchi told SFC Radio.

“We paid no attention because we knew that if such a team was interested, they would also require the purchase option.

“Seeing that the youngster had not grown as expected and the first team had a lot of competition, we contacted teams from the lower divisions such as Hercules, Las Palmas and Xerez.

“But, it was hard for the player to accept this after hearing of the offer from Barca, so in the end we had to go in that direction.

“We wish him well and if he succeeds at Barca we will be compensated well for his services and any subsequent transfers.

Meanwhile, Luis expressed his delight with the move through his official Twitter page saying: “I have just signed. I want to thank everyone at Sevilla for the love they have shown Sevilla, and Barca for the warm the reception.”
