Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat-trick as Real Madrid thrashed Sevilla 4-1 in their La Liga clash at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Karim Benzema scored the other goal for Jose Mourinho's side while Manu del Moral scored the only goal for Sevilla in a match which saw both sides finishing with ten men on the field following the sending off of Gonzalo Higuain and Hedwiges Maduro.

The Whites were determined to redeem themselves at home following their 1-0 away loss to Granada last weekend and took control of the match from the onset.

Kaka fired the first shot in anger in the 11th minute, but Sevilla goalkeeper Beto was equal to the task, while Luka Modric sent his effort wide six minutes later.

The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute when Ronaldo's cross ricocheted off Sevilla defender Fernando Navarro and the ball fell kindly for Benzema to nudge into the back of the net from close range.

Kaka relished his second league start of the season and in the 22nd minute he tested Beto with a solid strike but the Sevilla goalkeeper was able to make the stop.

Four minutes later Kaka found Ronaldo outside the box and the Portuguese forward unleashed a powerful shot which swerved and dipped past his countryman in the Sevilla goal.

The second goal seemed to awaken the visitors from their slumber and they started to look dangerous on attack with Jesus Navas shooting straight at the goalkeeper in the 30th minute, while Emir Spahic header over the crossbar a minute later.

Then in the 32nd minute Navas beat Fabio Coentrao on the right before playing the ball towards Jose Antonio Reyes, but Diego Lopez pulled off a good save at the near post to deny his former club.

Reyes then did well to get his freekick on target in the 40th minute, but Lopez read it well and made a comfortable save, while Ronaldo saw his setpiece parried by Beto at the other end three minutes later.

The Sevilla goalkeeper pulled off another brilliant save one minute before the break as he went down quickly to stop a header from Sergio Ramos, keeping his sides chances of getting back into the game alive at half time.

However, Sevilla fell even further behind in the first minute of the second half as Ronaldo slotted the ball home after Federico Fazio had failed to make a clearance inside the box.

The Portuguese star completed his hat-trick completed his hat-trick in the 59th minute following a counter-attack which saw him exchanging passes with Higuain before finishing with an easy tap-in.

However, the hosts were reduced to ten men in the 66th minute as Higuain was dismissed after collecting his second yellow card of the match for a needless foul on Navarro.

Seven minutes later substitute Manu del Moral came close to pulling one goal back for the away side, only to be denied by a great save from Lopez, who showed no mercy to his former teammates.

Then in the 80th minute Sevilla also found themselves with one man less on the field as Hedwiges Maduro was also given his matching orders for a second bookable offence.

However, the visitors were able to find a late consolation in the 87th minute as Manu ran onto a loose ball on the edge of the penalty area before placing his shot in the bottom corner to deny Lopez his clean sheet.
