Italy held World and European champions Spain to a 1-1 draw in an opening Euro 2012 Group D game in Gdansk.
Second half goals from Antonio di Natale for Italy and Spain mifielder Cesc Fabregas settled this contest at Arena Gdansk in Poland.
Di Natale put Italy ahead in the 61st minute after he was setup by Andrea Pirlo.
The Udinese player had barely been on the pitch five minutes after replacing Mario Balotelli.
Fabregas equalised three minutes later after a trademark passing game by the European and World kings.
Spains and Italy are tied on one point from their opening Group C game.
