Ferguson hails second half against Shanghai
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson celebrates after the final whistle
New signing Shinji Kagawa scored his first goal for the Red Devils midway through the second half as they won the Chevrolet China Cup at the Shanghai Stadium.
Shenhua, who were without former Chelsea duo Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba, defended deep as the visitors struggled to break them down in the first half.
However Kagawa's presence behind the frontman caused side plenty of problems in the second period, with substitutes Bebe and Paul Scholes both having chances to extend their team's advantage.
"I was very pleased with the way we played very well in the second half," Ferguson told MUTV.
"In the first half we had a lot of possession but lacked penetration and speed of play.
"It's been a great workout, they were very well organised. They weren't easy to play against."
