Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy says he is in great physical shape ahead of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The 33-year-old was drafted into Great Britain’s squad as one of the overage players alongside Ryan Giggs and Micah Richards and he is relishing the chance to take part in this special event.

"I am probably physically in the best shape I have been involved in," Bellamy told the club’s website.

"I have felt refreshed and have felt great over the last few weeks.

"Coming into this has come at the right time and I feel the most balanced and fit I have been for quite a few years.

"I will be fine and I proved with Cardiff a couple of seasons ago that I could be playing a couple of games in a week.”

Great Britain will kick off the tournament against Senegal at Old Trafford on July 26 before facing the United Arab Emirates at Wembley on July 29.

Coach Stuart Pearce has allowed the players to use their discretion regarding the opening ceremony which takes place on July 27 and Bellamy says he is keen on being part of the occasion.

"I would love to be involved but I will have to see how I feel after the Senegal game," added Bellamy.

"I have to be conscious that there is a game a couple of days later, so if I feel a little bit worse for wear I won't be going.

"But if I feel good it is something I would love to be involved in."

Team GB will end their Group A fixtures with a tough clash against Uruguay on August 1.
