Wigan defiant on Victor Moses
Victor Moses - Wigan or Chelsea?
Chelsea to seal Moses deal
Wigan Athletic boss
Roberto Martinez has insisted Victor Moses will star for his club against Chelsea on the
opening day of the new season.
Chelsea are reported to be preparing an improved offer for the 21-year-old Nigeria international, having had a previous offer rejected by Wigan.
However, a defiant Martinez said he is confident he will hold on to one of the brightest young talents in the English Premier League come the new campaign.
Moses looks certain to be at the DW Stadium when ‘The Latics’ entertain the newly-crowned European champions on the opening weekend of the campaign - the only question is on which side.
For his part, Martinez said he remains unconcerned at the silly-season speculation surrounding Moses, who is still on holidays enjoying the sunshine of Miami.
“We’re not going to be drawn into the media speculation,” he told the Evening Post.
“All I will say is that Victor had a tremendous season last year - particularly after Christmas – and he is still only 21.
“I’m really looking forward to Victor having a very good break and coming back refreshed and ready to go.
“His experience with Nigeria will bring him on even more, and will hopefully take him on to a different level next season.
“As I always say, the speculation is only a good thing – because when you perform well you are going to get attraction from elsewhere.”
Wigan owner Dave Whelan has also warned Chelsea he will not cut his asking price of £10 million for the Nigeria winger.
Chelsea FC are expected to bid about £7m with add-ons in Josh McEachran over the weekend.
But Whelan said: “We have had one offer from Chelsea and that is the end of it.”
