Torres ends as Golden Boot winner
Spain's Fernando Torres
The Blues striker may have started just two matches in the tournament for La Roja, who preferred a ‘striker-less’ formation with Cesc Fabregas as their main spearhead, but his goal and assist in the final on Sunday night saw him snatch the accolade from his rivals.
Torres ended on three goals – the same number as Mario Gomez (Germany), Alan Dzagoev (Russia), and Mario Mandzukic (Croatia) but his superior assist tally put him top of the pile.
The Chelsea man also became the first player to score in two separate Euro finals, having netted the decisive goal against Germany in the 2008 final.
