Mikel set to quit Chelsea Latest Nigeria news

Mikel Obi is unhappy at Chelsea and he could be open to a sensational move to big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, MTNFootball.com has scooped.

Close sources to the Nigeria international midfielder have said he has been unhappy for some time now at Stamford Bridge under manager Andre Villas-Boas.

And his escape from his misery could now be Anzhi, who have hired Mikel’s former boss at Chelsea Guus Hiddink.

“Mikel has clearly made up his mind to quit Chelsea and already there have been some moves by Anzhi to have him," a top source told MTNFootball.com

The Russian club have attracted some big names like Samuel Eto'o, Roberto carlos and only recently Yuri Zhirkov left Chelsea to join them.

Mikel’s Chelsea contract still has two more years to run, but lately this season it has become increasingly clear that he may not have a future there under AVB.

Tuesday night he was an unused sub as Chelsea crashed 3-1 at Napoli to leave their UEFA Champions League hopes again hanging by the thread.

The player’s agent John Ola Shittu has insisted Mikel is staying put at Chelsea as “they have not said they do not want him”.

The 24-year-old Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 after a transfer saga that also involved Manchester United.

He won the English Premier League championship with ‘The Blues’ in the 2009/10 season as well as three winners’ medals in the FA Cup and one such medal in the League Cup.

Meanwhile, Mikel, who sat out as his club lost 3-1 at Napoli in the first leg UEFA Champions League Round of 16, has declared that Chelsea may be down but they are not out of the competition as they will turn the table against the Italian club  in the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Mikel said his team lost the first leg to hosts Napoli not because they were better, but because they took the chances that came their way, while Chelsea missed so many scoring chances.

“It was a painful loss. We did well in the game but Napoli took their chances well. Not that we played badly, we created a lot of scoring chances but we were unlucky not to have scored as many as four goals in Naples,” the Chelsea star told MTNFootball.com

“And I am also saying that we are not out of Champions League. We are motivated to win the return leg and move to the next round of the competition.

“We will correct our mistakes from the first leg when they come to London. I am sure we will qualify to next stage.”

Nigerian Players are businessmen. Mikel, I wouldn't really blame you, but your advisers...The John Shittu of this world and your relatives who cannot advise you because of the pounds you give them. As for me, let me give you a piece of advise- Go back to the basic, humble yourself, be hard working and don't be arrogant and perhaps God may restore your football skills. Your going to Anzi is a step backwards, but it is recommended, if you want to plunge your youthfulness into club and international oblivion.

Mike have failed to handle the fame that came to him. Its obvious that the youngman is confused when he should have proved to the world that actually he was better than Messi in 2005 instead of claiming it. A move to Anzhi will be the begining of the end of a talented player who could not handle the stardom that came to him. SORRY MIKEL BUT U CAN STILL SHINE IF U RETRACE THOSE WRONG STEPS.
