Steven Gerrard has welcomed the return of Luis Suarez and believes the Uruguayan will help the Reds’ push for a Champions League spot.

Suarez, banned for eight matches for racially abusing Patrice Evra, is set to make his return against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening, with the Reds currently lying in sixth spot.

“Luis can help us achieve what we set out to achieve - finishing top four and reaching two finals,” said Gerrard.

“I'm sure he will because he's a super player.”

It will be a tight race for the final Champions League spot as Chelsea, who currently occupy the final spot, sit just four points above Kenny Dalglish’s side.

The Anfield outfit has been hitting the headlines for the all the right reasons, due to their League cup semifinal win over Manchester City, while beating Manchester United in a dramatic FA Cup fourth round match.

Liverpool have had to adapt and make do without their leading front man, but Gerrard believes that the return of the striker will further increase the team’s confidence.

“Luis has shown over the last 12 months that he's one of the best players in the world. So we want these players available,” said the 31-year-old.

"He has been missed and the players are looking forward to welcoming him back.”
