Liverpool defender Jose Enrique says new coach Brendan Rodgers has already made him a better player.

The 26-year-old says the former Swansea City manager has changed the type of football they play and believes this will make them a stronger side in the new season.

On Thursday Liverpool dominated play as they recorded a 3-0 win over FC Gomel in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round, and the Spaniard believes it's a sign of bigger things to come.

"Everyone is trying and the manager is really good for us, he tries to play tikki-takka like he says," Enrique told reporters, "And this is the type of football everyone wants to play.

"In Spain, many teams play like this. The manager wants us to play football on the floor but we have to defend very hard. This is very important.

"Everyone is still improving. I am 26, I still have to improve but I already think I have with the new manager."

Enrique says although his primary job is to defend, Rodgers has also encouraged him to be more involved going forward.

"I play higher up the field with him whereas before I played more alongside the centre-backs," he said.

"Now I'm like a forward and play really high - I hope now I can score some goals.

"The manager is really important in this. He has changed my game and he has made 100% certain I can do this for the team."
