Kakuta targets first team breakthrough

Chelsea’s Gael Kakuta says his target this season is break into the first team on a regular basis.

Kakuta has yet to establish himself during his Stamford Bridge career, starting just one Premier League game and making 16 appearances in all competitions in total.

He spent last season out on loan at Bolton Wanderers and then Dijon, and Kakuta has again being tipped to head out on a temporary basis.

The 21-year-old featured in the Blues' opening two games of their US tour against Seattle and Paris Saint-Germain, but did not figure against the MLS All-Stars and AC Milan.

With the European champions having signed the likes of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin over the summer, Kakuta's prospects of making an impact during the coming campaign again look slim.

Reports have claimed that Marseille want to sign the attacker on a season-long loan, with Chelsea keen to assess how he performs in big games.

Kakuta has yet to receive a firm approach from the Ligue 1 club after confirming his priority is to play regularly after previously enduring frustrating loan spells at Fulham and Bolton.

"I am flattered by Marseille's interest, but there has been nothing official, so maybe it is just paper talk," said Kakuta.

"I want to play first-team football week in, week out, either at Chelsea or anywhere else."
