Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo has said QPR’s 2-1 win over Arsenal will boost the London club’s confidence to beat relegation from the EPL.

QPR have now recorded 28 points from 31 matches and in 18th position, they are still sucked in the relegation dog fight.

However, Taiwo, who is on loan from Italian champions AC Milan, has said Saturday’s home win over Arsenal has given QPR more self belief that they can avoid the dreaded drop.

“It was important that we won this game. This victory has given us more confidence that we will not be relegated,” Taiwo said in a Lagos radio interview Monday.

“We worked hard for each other and if we continue to do so, we will stay up.”

Taiwo has settled down at the London. Last week, he scored his first goal in the EPL and on Saturday, he played the full duration against fellow Londoners Arsenal.

The former Olympique Marseille star will back Manchester United to retain their EPL title despite a spirited challenge by Manchester City.

“Manchester United will be champions again,” he predicted.

“They play as a team and enjoy the advantage over Manchester City. It won’t be easy for City to stop them.”

QPR could well play a big part in determining which part of Manchester the league championship will end up at as they visit Manchester United on Sunday.

During the off-season, Taiwo will be involved in a busy schedule with the national team.

Nigeria will play three straight qualifiers against Namibia, Malawi and Rwanda in June.

“It will not be easy because we will just be coming off a busy season but the target would be to win the full points in these matches irrespective of the scores,” he said.

“We need more time and hard work to return to the top.”
