United aim for Everton revenge
Stunned: Manchester United will be aiming for revenge on Everton when the teams meet on Sunday
The Red Devils have suffered twice at the hands of the Toffees in recent times, drawing 4-4 at home toward the back end of last season, a result which played a role in them missing out on the title.
Then, on the first weekend of this season, a Marouane Fellaini header saw Everton defeat United 1-0 at Goodison Park.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side have been in immense form in recent times, but with a crunch UEFA Champions League clash against mighty Real Madrid looming large, the Scottish manager may have to think carefully about his player selection.
Whoever the hosts pick, they are sure to be highly motivated to pick up the three points against Everton, with the pain of losing the league title last season driving them on, according to Patrice Evra.
"It's a really important time for us," said the French full-back.
"This is the time when you have to win your games and show that we are the number one team.
"Nobody forgets the big disappointment of losing the title last season. It's really important that we just keep going because the league is not finished in February.
"We really want to show we are champions."
The Toffees have a tough fighting spirit of their own, however, as their comeback to draw 3-3 with Aston Villa in their last league outing demonstrated.
Kevin Mirallas believes their battling qualities will be key against United and in the race to finish fourth and secure Champions League football for next season.
"Fighting spirit will serve us well,” said the attacker.
“We have worked hard to get into fifth place and we will be doing all that we can to reach fourth place.
“If we are going to grab the last Champions League spot, we are going to have to keep fighting.”
