Former international Mehmet Scholl has criticised Mats Hummels after Germany were knocked out of Euro 2012 by Italy in the second semi-final.

Joachim Low's side were defeated 2-1 by the Azzurri, after a double by Mario Balotelli in the first half.

And the one-time Bayern Munich man was quick to point the finger at Hummels after the final whistle.

“Today, [Antonio] Cassano acted him out,” Scholl told ARD.

“He will never, never ever - and I'm sure about this - again make that mistake, but at such a high level these mistakes will be punished straight away. Today this was deadly."

The 41-year-old however, did conclude the interview by saying: “Hummels has had a great tournament.”
