Jose Bosingwa left Stamford Bridge at the end of the season when his contract expired, leaving Branislav Ivanovic as Chelsea’s only senior right-back as Paulo Ferreira is also expected to leave the club this summer.
But Ivanovic may also be needed in central defence, leaving Di Matteo short of options in his back four.
Piszczek has been at Dortmund since 2010, moving to the Bundesliga champions from Hertha BSC.
The 27-year-old featured at Euro 2012 for his country and the Mail says that despite Poland’s failure to escape the group stage, Piszczek still impressed with his individual displays.
The Mail went on to say Di Matteo is considering a number of options for right-back, including Inter’s Brazil defender Maicon, Ajax right-back Gregory van der Wiel, Lille’s France international Mathieu Debuchy and Manchester United’s Rafael da Silva.
